What is Organic & Shade Grown?

Organic Coffee
Organic coffee, simply put, is coffee grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The farms are required to switch to organic production for three years prior to receiving organic certification. The coffee is certified organic by Quality Assurance International. Great organic coffee requires a shade canopy to prevent the sun from bleaching nutrients from the soil. Shade is of concern to many consumers as it provides bird habitat. We see birds as one of many issues surrounding all agricultural production. Organic coffee production prevents chemicals from going into water tables, it increases biodiversity (from birds to bugs-the whole ecosystem), and it provides more and greater opportunity to the farmers. Buon Amici’s Coffee allows you to enjoy all the good things about organic, and do so while enjoying a superb cup of coffee.
